Last week I announced that we would be opening our doors for our first on site service since the “Stay at Home” orders. Well since then I’ve learned new information and realized that we weren’t quite ready to start back in our building. So this past week we’ve been measuring the distance between our pews, getting proper cleaning supplies and getting ready for re-opening. What we learned is that we weren’t as prepared as I thought. Looking at churches in the headlines recently where there has been a spread of covid-19 between those who attended a service and then spread throughout their community and studying recommendations from the CDC made it clear that I could not in clear conscience re-open at this time.

Believe me, I wanted to re-open. I wanted to fellowship with you in person instead of through technology, but I could not in light of the teaching of the Word of God concerning our responsibilities to others. Jesus stated that we are to “love thy neighbour as thyself.” Philippians 2:4 tells us to “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” This verse makes it clear that we need to think of others at times like these. I might have been able to determine that it was a reasonable risk for myself, but we need to think of our church family and community as whole.

So I’m back to gathering more information and taking little baby steps toward re-opening.

This week we are going to have a tiny group together in our auditorium, just enough for music, scripture reading and the message, and will live stream from Grace Bible Church. So join us in heart if not in person this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at just like we have done the last few months. Come early online to participate in the fellowship chat.

Pray for God’s wisdom and His timing for when to open our doors again.

In His Love,
Pastor, Bethany, Jimmy and Matthew

p.s. This is a good experiment to see how well a live stream will work on our extremely slow internet at the church. So don’t be surprised if the quality is quite a bit lower than what we have had the last couple of months. Even when we do re-open there may be some who will not be able to attend and so we are planning on live streaming each service if our internet is fast enough.
